Advice on water ingress where brick meets UPVC doorframe

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Hello there, with the recent heavy rain I am seeing the mortar in our porch showing signs of damp, specifically all around where our UPVC door is. The sealant looks in good condition, so would anyone have any advice on how to stop it? Many thanks. EDIT: thank you for your answers so far. The door is arched and essentially you can see water seeping through into the porch around the whole arch is. I've a feeling it could be because the door is set flush with the brickwork outside? Would waterproof brick sealant help or do I need a new door?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depends on a number of factors . If dampness is above could be a cavity tray issue. If dampness is around the frame could be an issue with vertical dpc where the inner skin meets the brickwork. EG no vertical dpc .

Hi there, this can be a few things. 1 it rising damp and you don’t have any protection from below. (Dpc) this is what you put in at ground level on your brick or block course. 2 the ground outside is high and water is Resting there. Kind regards Carl

Good answers given so far, if the door is flush with outer brickwork then I'm guessing it's a single wall porch. If there is a cavity then I would suggest re setting the door back so you have a reveal.
