Neighbours stones bowing my fence

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.44 PM

Hello to everyone, Erected my fence in April. Since then I have noticed gaps in between the fence panel and the post. I did think it was the hot weather and warping. On having a good look recently I discovered that it was in fact the stones that my neighbour behind me. The stones have been placed on land that slopes down Therefore I have nearly a foot of gravel resting on my fence panel. The bottom frame is bowed ever so slightly and is pulling the bottom screw away from the post hence the gap. I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I can’t imagine the neighbour moving the stones. She has used my fence as a retainer however the fences are simply too weak to withhold that amount of pressure clearly. Any ideas please as eventually it probably will weaken my fence and caused me to have to replace it again. I will be asking her to move her stones but would like to protect my Fence and maybe offer a solution so we can both have what we want. I know all too well how fences and boundaries can cause problems and really don’t really want to go down that route. Any advice would be most helpful and would also save my partner a headache as I keep worrying about it :-) UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the replies and ideas. I have spoken to the Lady since and we will come to some sort of agreement. The gravel boards are definitely the way forward. I will be sorting this out is a few weeks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Please ask to get the stones removed ok . Then discuss having a new Retaining fence erected. I would suggest 8ft long concrete slotted posts , complete with a 6ft x 1ft high concrete gravel boards complete with a 6ft x 5ft high closeboard panels fixed above the gravel boards. The posts to be concreted 2ft into the ground. Hope this answers your question. Regards Martyn.

Drop a square pointed peg behind the gb x2 middle them out hammer them in then screw them in it then should pop the gravel back in line but you will have to move the gravel off to do this

Maybe screw in a gravel board at the base height of the panel on their side along the front faces of the posts. This would retain the stones and leave a little gap between the new retaining gravel board and the panel.

Put some gravel boards at the bottom of your fence this will retain the stones.

You need to talk to her. Explain and show her what happened because she's put the stones down incorrectly. I'm sure it was just a mistake so she'll probably be more than happy to fix the problems before it makes yours and her fence any worse. After she has removed the stones she'll need to place gravel boards down on her side to stop the stones putting pressure on the fence. You can straighten your side out just by putting some stakes in the ground whilst pushing it back. You can even add some gravel boards to your side also.

Remove the stone and put a stronger gravel board such as a 6x2 the help retain the bank.
