Once all rotten timber is treated all old paint rubbed down use only exterior quality filler if needed, spot prime any bare timber with good quality oil based primer. The use exterior paint systems ie Dulux weathershield or similar with 2 coats of undercoat followed by 2 coats of top coat.

Rub /Sand down, remove loose or flaking paint, fill any gaps and cracks with a Latex Exterior Wood Filler (two part), apply primer such as Sandtex White Metal & wood Undercoat - then paint as needed in the desired colour with exterior paint such a Sandtex Pure brilliant white Satinwood Exterior Metal & wood paint, Flexible formulation to resist cracking, peeling etc which also has a 10 year guarantee. Both quick dry- 2hours and standard drying are available dependant on your preference.
You are also able to use other paint brands after filling and sanding down any gaps and crack with Zinsser Allcoat - exterior paint for a range of surfaces, including wood, metal & UPVC.

There is no need for 2 coats of undercoat and 2 coats of gloss, overcoating couses the wood to rot.just 1 coat of undercoat and 1 of gloss is enough.
