How do we decorate after damp proofing, as line visible at top of plaster when painted

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM

We've had a damp proof done and its now dried completely (more than 8 weeks since done). We have sanded and painted one wall but the line at the top of the plaster is still showing in places. What do we need to do to the rest of the walls to stop this from happening? We don't know how to decorate to get rid of this. We normally just have plain white walls. Any advice much appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Karen, i would recommend to use a stainkiller (basecoat) under your white paint, this will stop the colour / stain to reappear after you have painted it. If its a small area , you could get a spray, for instance Zinsser B-I-N Primer Sealer Spray Paint. If you have larger areas, I would use either Bin Zinnser Stainkiller or polycell basecoat 3 in 1. This works well for me, good luck!

Depending on how high the line is you could scrape it using a scraper or a quick easy fix could be using filler to get rid of the line wait for it to dry and then lightly sand it then re paint. Hope it helps

Any area effected with stain must be painted with an like based paint first with 2 coats and this will kill the stain cause for good The paint over with what ever paint you prefer
