Suggested join for downpipe to angled floplast female

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM

I have fitted a prestige wall mounted water butt. I have had to use the floplast angled pipe connectors as the butt is offset from the downpipe. This has resulted in cutting the existing 68mm downpipe and slotting the female end of the angled connector into this cut end. The issue is that this is not a tightfit and so water escapes down the side of the downpipe and angled fitting. I tried wrapping with self amalgamating tape and also some gorilla waterproof patch and seal tape but I think the gap between the downpipe inside and the angled connector female connection is just too wide for this to cope. This pipe is used for grey water from the bathroom and enough of that just pours around the join. It is a tight area for relying on wrapping tape around so I think I need an extra connector to go over the end of the cut downpipe and this connecting to the female end of the floplast really tightly or, better still, inside the female connection, as this means water coming down will be guided into a narrower area. The other option is to replace the existing female to female angled connector with on with an end that can go over the downpipe end. The issue with that is getting the existing angle right is paramount and I am unsure of that. The angled connector kit is at https://www.freeflush.co.uk/products/downpipe-offset-kit?variant=39453465641047 I really need to be able to purchase the correct fittings so need some advice.

The 68mm downpipe is for the rainwater system and it isn’t meant for waste-water because as you noted it’s not tightly fitted. Use 40mm pipe for the waste-water, which is really tight, solvent-weld.
