does a new consumer unit installed in a flat in Scotland need a building warrant?
Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 2.58 PM
ive just had a consumer unit upgrade in my flat in Scotland.
ive been reading about building warrants that i did not know about .
ive seen some places say i may need one. can any one advise please?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
I don't think so. It seems the building warrant system is chiefly concerned with the structural integrity of the building. Therefore new sockets recessed into the wall of a flat DO require a warrant. New consumer units which are simply replacing what already exists to a similar level do NOT. I found this document>> Check note 2. ://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/Resources/PDF/B/BSelectricalguidance.pdf
Any electrical works to that scale needs signing off correctly. I know in England & wales for sure but we would have to check if Scotland has the same rules. With that said Im fairly certain it would need a cert & sign off.
