How to fill gaps between LVT and skirting
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM
Hi, I had some skirting fitted over the top of some new LVT flooring. The floor is level but there are areas with large gaps between the floor and skirting board. What is best to use to fill? Silicone? Caulk?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi silicone is better as it flexible if you have any movement in the floor caulking will go hard and crumble if there is movement

Agreed as above..... silicone should be used but if you have heavy gaps then obviously your floor isn't flat and ideally the skirting should of been scribed to fit snug to the floor but sometimes this opens a can of worms.

Agree about but you can use bidding as well that's independent what you prefer

Personally I think silicone would be a better option as the finish would be nicer, alongside that it should be more durable if applied correctly.

Silicone personally, or if the gaps are too large then possibly scotia/beading.

Silicone for painted skirting would be your best bet, if for stained or natural wood finding a good colour match in the Sika Flex range would be my first choice.

The floor sealing will go hard and crumble if there is movement, however silicone is better because it is flexible.
