Mist coated but used silk paint by accident
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM
I recently had a bedroom plastered and with out even thinking used watered down silk paint for the mist coat at the time didn’t think nothing of it ! But I have now done a top coat and ceiling and when I went to use some frog tape it pulled a line of the paint of .. now realising I should of used Matt emulsion.. is there any easy way to strip back to the plaster? Thanks

Depends on the strength of frog tape you used. If it's coming off or peeling with your top coat no alternative but to scrape or sand off unfortunately.

The best thing to do is to sand the paint off back to its plastered form, then start again with a watered down Matt emulsion to re-mist coat. Then paint with your desired shade/colour once dry. When sanding It is going to get very dusty, so keep area closed off and ventilated with a window in that room. Maybe look to hire/borrow an electric sander to speed up the process.

The paint has not properly adhered to the plaster one option might be I say might, using a test area apply some steam from a steam stripper a short burst so not to crack any plaster skim coat when heated use a scraper to scrape off the silk Finnish this is an option to try but not a guaranteed solution.
