Remove stone cladding and replace windows, which first?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

My small terraced house has 80's stone cladding on the front which I would like to have removed (I appreciate the brick underneath will be damaged and will probably need rendering) , but I also want to replace the old aluminium frame windows. Which job should be done first? Our are they best done at the same time? If so, who would I look for to do this? I'm in North London. Thank you for any advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, You need to have the stone cladding removed first this is a job for any tradesman really you could ask the plasterer who will do your rendering as I’m sure they’d be happy to. So the demolition work so to speak is done without any potential even accidental damage done to your new windows. Then have your windows fitted and brickwork made good rendering or whatever you choose last. Hope this helps good luck 👍

Have your Windows done first by a reputable window company then have a builder remove the old stone cladding doing it this way ensures a better seal around your windows and you window company won't be disturbing the render around your window reveals.

Cladding first possible sandblasting and then look at bricks then rendering and then windows finish

I agree with the general views put forward, but just want to ask you to consider getting your house clad in external insulation, after the stone cladding is removed and the windows fitted, to bring up the energy efficiency of the building. This can then be rendered.
