Electric water heater plug and fuse

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

Hi, I have an instant water heater (Chinese brand). It comes ready fitted with a molded 3 pin UK plug with a 13 amp fuse, from a 1.5mm^2 wired cable. However in the user manual it says: As per national electric code this water heater needs to be wired with a 2.5mm^2 wire to a mimimum 25amp/maximum 25a Installation request: The circuit breaker should be bigger than 32 A (C32) Any ideas? Does it need to connect direct to the circuit breaker and what could happen if I try to plug it into a socket with the supplied plug? Thanks

Don't worry about it. If it has a 13amp fuse protecting it then that will be enough. If the appliance uses to much power then the 13amp fuse will blow. If it's not blowing then it's working within parameters. Not sure what the user manual means. Possible it's referring to 120v supplies that are common abroad in which case the current will double.

If you are worried that plugging it in to a socket will cause problems it won't. The 13A fuse in the plug is the clue. Just plug it in. Nothing is going to happen.
