Pipe damaged will digging post holes, what are my options for repair?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

I was digging some fence post holes in the front garden when I hit the mains water pipe. It's seemingly routed strangely from the meter on the pavement across the boundary! I believe it is lead, 22mm (a magnet wouldn't stick to it?). What are the options for fixing a damaged section of lead pipe buried in the ground? I've located the hole, circa 10mm diameter. Someone mentioned Viking Johnson couplings(?). Would they hold it or is it more likely the damaged section needs to be cut out and replaced and if so is that possible to do with lead the way it is with copper pipe? Shame I can't attach images here!

Would Cut out the section that is damaged and replaced with newer up to date blue 22mm pipe with two fittings either end that also fit onto the old water main pipe work/ also advise to remove filters and clean once repair has been carried out as small debris is more then likely within the water main

It's just one way. To freeze a pipe and cut it and install straight coupler (Special for lead pipes)
