Patio slabs against house

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

New build house, with 600x600mm slabs laid on patio. Want to extend the slabbing to match up against the wall. However, original builders didn't do a run off slope or gravel trap for slabs outside patio doors. Should we incorporate a gravel strip along the wall or a run off which if we did would not match the existing slabs? Please help!

Hi there, I'd suggest leaving a 50mm ribbon of pea gravel between the house and slabs.

Gravel slip is usually to hide a drain for water to run off. If you don’t have a drain and the water runs towards the house, as long as the top of the slabs are 150mm below dpc (damp proof course) then you shouldnt have any problems.

I would not recommend sloping the patio instead get one of these (Aco 19313 Hexdrain 1m Plastic Channel & Galv Grating) and place it in between your slabs and your house as there built with a slope but a straight surface so you get a much better finish in the end

I would recommend installing a slimline alco or similar channel drain. This way the threshold to patio height isn’t so important to stop the water transferring across.
