what is this mystery pipe on my cylinder?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

https://ibb.co/tKX7rKZ As shown in the photo, the coil inlet is tee ed to an isolation valve and an open end. When I turned on the valve, I hear some air hissing for a few seconds and nothing else come out. (hot water is off at that moment) Any idea what it is? I have a conventional gravity-fed system with two tanks in the loft. Thanks.

It’s been put in to bleed air out of the system.

This valve has been put there so the system can be bled of air when filling. The pipe should be capped off to prevent a potential leak.

Be careful don't turn it to open when you're got heating or hot water running get an automatic air vent or thumb vent fitted
