Central Heating

HeatPump for heating/DWH/cooling

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

Looking to replace my central heating/DWH, and am interested in systems that could do both air-to-air and air-to-water, so that I could get heating/DWH in winter and cooling/DWH in summer. Have come across Samsung TDM Plus that seems to be able to do this. Samsung's system is appealing in that it can combine DWH and traditional radiator/UFH heating with air heating. Not an essential feature for me, but I like that it can be used for cooling in summer. Any other systems out there that can do this? Are some better than others? Anyone here with experience of using/installing such systems?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can, some air source heat pumps also do cooling, it's not air cooling but if you have underfloor heating and radiators the heat pump sends cold water through them. You need to do loads of prep work on your system, making sure everything is correctly insulated. Would be easy if the property was been renovated but think a retrofit would be more difficult. I did a property recently that had multi split AC and an unvented DHW cylinder run from solar panels they had installed with battery storage

There are on market some heat pump air to water that can change summer to winter heating and cooling, but you need instead radiator an fcu to avoid condensing problems that occur on summer. And can run on summer the DHW on solar or PV . But these heat pump are not available in UK market. The air to air( pump) can be modified on big compressor( over 10 tone ) and need to be fabricated with cylinder over 500 letters for efficency. ( This installation is possible on places where is available a cold room over 10 tone)
