No water to toilet after replace power shower with mixer

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

I got traditional boiler system with water tank and stuff, I got the plumber to replace it with combi next week all good. The boiler is currently off so no hot water and heating. BTW the same plumber is not available to do other work and I got power shower in my bathroom so I need to replaced with mixer too to make it work with combi. I got second plumber to replace the shower this morning. After finish, I got no cold water from tap, no water to toilet. But for some reason there is water out from tap when open hot (it's not hot water BTW. Just cold as the boiler is off). I asked the plumber who did the job if this is right and he said fien. It should fix itself when new boiler is installed but I dotn buy it. Replacing shower to mixer should not stop cold water to toilet and tap. Can someone shed the light for me please.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the toilet and shower mixer was run off the tank it could potentially be a air lock. Was there any pipe alterations involved ?

Hi Raywat, First thing to check is that any isolation valves are not turned off; I've gone to quite a number of jobs where the previous plumber/fitter has turned something off at the isolation valve and forgot to turn back on. It's a bit unfair that the plumber isn't talking you through at least or explaining properly, however you could follow the pipework back from the shower and check if there are any isolation valves or gate valves turned off preventing water from running. If everything is on then could be an airlock, worth looking up fixing on Youtube as its a fairly simple thing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUrI46SuXbI Good luck!

It's likely that your cold water tank which previously supplied the cold feeds in your bathroom has been isolated to connect the new hot supplies from your combi to the old hot water tank pipework. Perhaps your Plumber didn't connect the isolated tank supply on the cold side to the main, you need to have someone review the connections made when your combi was installed.
