Corroded Flue - Allow Carbon Monoxide to leak?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
Hi there, My boiler flue has bubbling on the aluminium pipe (external) and some visible rusting where 2 parts of the pipe join one another. Worried about it's safety. Could a corroded flue/rustin cause Carbon Monoxide to leak? Thank you

Unfortunately I am unable to answer this question as it relates to a boiler flue. You will need to consult a Gas Safe engineer.

Yes any breach in the Flue and no matter what the Flue is used for i.e Gas, Oil, Solid Fuel it is still a product of combustion which the Flue is designed to safely take this away. Therefore it will be Dangerous if there is a fault with the Flue which ever Heat Source is used. I would look to repair / replace the Flue using a suitably Competent Tradesman or at least have it inspected. If Gas (I would Be Doing A Smoke Test.) If this fails, then i would be issuing a Warning Notice, Labelling DO NO T USE and Isolating the Appliance from the Gas Supply. (With Your Permission.) Thats as serious as it gets.
