What should I do about a poorly skimmed room?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Room has been skimmed but there are noticeably parts near skirting board, around light switch and window sill that haven't even been filled. Big gaps and looks crumbly. I haven't paid yet and I've contacted the plasterer to say I'm not happy. I don't think this can easily be put right even if he comes back and fills these obvious holes, like he says he will. What are my rights? I've taken photos. The room was also left in a right mess. Plaster all over the carpet, wet and dry. Plaster all over skirting boards and door frame.

Its not often you get an unclean plasterer but seems like this one escaped the net here, professional plasterers allways pride themselves with making sure the area worked upon is clean and tidy throughout the job , my advice is to try and get him back to go over the cracks and missed plaster, but you must say you want a clean job. Dont pay untill done.

You should take him back and let him to fix the job ( it can be done with filler in places or re- skimmed, he need to clean up and pay for the damage items like carpet if it can’t be clean, don’t pay until you are happy but give him a chance to put it right
