Door jams after fitting wooden flooring
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
Hello, Just had wooden floors fitted and the floor level is now are higher than previous, and the internal door now won't close! What can I do to remedy without taking the door off its hinges? Many thanks!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there Adam here from sigma construction while the door is still on lay a pencil flat on the floor so that the lead is touching the door and then run it along drawing a line along bottom of the door this will give u the right amount to plane off.... Just be careful and get a tradesman to do it if you are not confident last thing you want is spending all that money on a new floor and then ruining your door..... This wouldn't be down to the floor layer to do but they should have let you no at least

I would only recommend taking the door off its hinges and cutting it with a circular saw or shaving it with a plane.

Hi, the door will have to be removed and cut to the correct size as the floor level is higher.

Once you have taken the doors.of the hinges they can be cut down using a circular saw - multi tool or a wood plane

I’m afraid the door needs taking off and trimming at the bottom. It’s a quick job for someone with the right tools and shouldn’t cost you too much. Unless you have a circular saw or similar, and are confident using it, I wouldn’t try to do it yourself.
If you have hollow core doors, beware that if you trim too much off, you’ll expose the void, ie the hollow part of the door. This isn’t ideal as it reduces the strength of the door. It also means moisture can easily enter the door and cause warping. Don’t worry though, a decent carpenter will know ways around this.
