Lack of response from electrician, what do I do?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
I'm here to seek some advice on what to do. I had a walk round our new 3 bed semi-detached property with our electrician back end of June and agreed number/location of sockets and switches and agreed a price (he never wrote up a "professional" quote though). He confirmed it'd be a 2-3 day job. His team made a start beginning of July and our job seemed to be on/off for about 6 weeks to mid-August (there were numerous excuses about staff sickness and annual leave during this time). The electrician's communication has not been timely the whole way through and at times we're feeling ignored. He returned to us last week stating extras have been done on the job and that our new total is circa £1.5K more than originally quoted. I can't help but feel he has simply underestimated our job and is trying to recoup costs from a job he initially said would be 2-3 days (as his team have gone through about 6 days of work to date). I've offered him the chance to visit the property so we can walk round together and he can point out what he feels the extras are (no response received). We now need to press ahead with installation of a bathroom extractor fan so do we just bring a new electrician in to quote/finish off the work (and agree to draw the line somewhere with the current electrician) or do we persist with the current electrician and hope he suddenly becomes reliable?
