Plumbing

Bath overflow grilles (3) have all turned black within 12 months.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Had a new bathroom installed in 2010 which was a nightmare. A proper plumber advised that the main bath drain was "bowed" and the bath itself was 2" too low. He felt that the black grilles could be due to stagnant water or excessive solvent in the pipework. The clown who installed the bath has blamed the bath manufacturer or the quality of the grilles. Help please!

we have been self employed in the plumbing and heating trade for 30 years and believe it or not during that time we have had the chrome fade away due to the quality of the metal on at least 3 occasions, try cleaning it once a month

Hi, If you use sivit bang or another high strength type conon bathroom cleaner the crome will be eaten away/go black this is a chemical reaction, sometimes caused when a cheper fitting/supplied unit comes from abroad, the base metal is not cleaned very well pre chroming along with the croam layer is beaing very thin,,,,, and hay presto it all goes black and pitted . as a rule of thumb always just use soapy water to clean all crome,a shammy will give a gright sparkly finish ""No abrasive cleaners at all" regards Ashley
