Wetroom leak remedial work - tiling/backer board

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

Wetroom leaked. Former and first course of wall tiles removed. WBP ply on joists (shower tray yet to be fit). Grateful for tiling expertise on upcoming predicament. Photos explain the following better: Corner shower - one wall masonry (stepped-render?) and other brick inside studs. Plan is to replace salvaged tiles once shower tray in. My questions are regarding prepping the walls for tiling: 1. 12mm backer board on "brick stud" wall, (No more ply? Mapei addy (which one, Keraflex?) and tile. Will the "brick stud" need priming before the No more ply is attached? 2. Masonry wall looks like it was previously tanked as was a wetroom. Looks like stepped-render in photo? Also short of space for backer board here (see photo). How would you tackle this hurdle? 3. Does WBP ply edges still need sealing if only supporting a shower base and not a wetroom? Thanks for any help/input. Photos https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/wetroom-leak-remedial-work-tiling-prep-conundrum.596513/

Hi.. this is only my opinion.. First make sure all connections with pipes under is 100% connect right.. then tested and check if not leaking then connec drainage if everything will be on right position, remove shower tray after put everywhere silicone where will be stay shower tray even on the wall and put tray inside the wall that makes you sure leak never gone be between tray and wall.. if you install tray then put more silicone between. Like I see on pictures there is to much gap between wall and tiles.. my suggestion is to fix some plywood use pve to make it waterproof and also much more glue will be hold tiles.. cut tiles 2 or 3 mm close to tray glued.. growths and put like should be silicone nicely. Job done.

When we fix the tray we need to make sure its solid so theres no movement when someone goes in the shower.

Please disregard previous given information, (glue, PVA??) defo no no, find the source of the leak if not already and sort that first, dont use ply, use correct process, too long to explain for you to DIY, please put this up for a real Tiler not a builder as previous comments were from, (if they were that) get a quote and get a orioer job done not some half arsed chancer which will leave you out of pocket and calling in someone to fix a mistake that could be avoided. Good 🤞
