Strong horrid smell weeks after rooms were painted
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM
Hello Four weeks ago we had the decorator in to remove old wallpaper, make good, fibre line the walls and then paint them, and despite constant ventilation the room still smells unpleasant. I can't describe the smell because I have not encountered it before but it is not musty, mould or sweet. We were on holiday at the time of the work and are unsure what might be causing the smell. Any ideas or advice welcome. Thank you for the advice. I will find out what paint was used.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Do you know how old the paint was? Even good paint (dulux trade etc) goes off with time and temperature changes. It will leave an undescrible and long lasting odour if used.

If it smells like off eggs it could be the paint used was off.

I would ask the decorator which products he used. He's the only one who can answer your question really.

Sounds like the paint he used has gone off been left outside and the weather had got to it

Sounds like paint has gone off/old paint.. like a cheesy socks smell. Could even be the caulk, ive had that before, but it's more rotten egg smell. it isn't nice.
