Flat warm roof fixed to concrete roof
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM
My builder has been working on a warm flat roof for me but right at the start I was admitted to hospital with heart issues again. First I saw it again the roof was on. What worries me is the manner he has drilled in to the old flat concrete roof what was cut flush with the shared wall. I though he would be going on top of the shared wall as it is double brick and half is mine with a wall plate but instead he has gone level and fixed wood in to that very roof with big bolts. Any help or advise would be greatly received if this is something you can do thanks

Without looking at it is difficult to say. Drilling to concrete is ok as long as he used designated fixings, parapet wall should be covered over to neighbour side. Different cover materials, different technic but something like this quick link for typical detailing: https://www.hambleside-danelaw.co.uk/products/parapet-wall-encapsulation/

Hey mate, yes this is definitely something you can do, building control and all insurance companies that I know of accept this method. I have had one side of an entire set of joists sitting on hangers off a wall plate. As long as the plate is fixed appropriately with chem fix or coach bolts etc.
Sitting the roof on top of the brickwork would have been easier so he must have had a good reason to opt for the more time consuming option. As previously mentioned, it’s difficult to be certain without pictures.

By the sounds of it, your builder has used a wall plate and bolted it to the concrete roof. Hopefully he has used a chemical fixing
I’ll take it then hung rafters from hangers to the wall plate at the other side of your extension. If this is the case I would not have any concerns.
As long as there was a good watertight, seal between the old roof and new
