What are these marks & why? Mould/mildew?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

Hello, Can anyone help identify what these marks are and what can be causing it? It's mainly concentrated on one wall, the window wall, in an upstairs bedroom. The outside of the house was rendered last year in I believe silicone render but can't remember if it was happening before. https://postimg.cc/gallery/6R76LSV Thanks

It is mould stains get some one to test for damp in the wall or get a oil based undercoat paint and then paint over it when dry

It would be advised to check the other side of wall for damage as damp is clearly coming in. Once this has been detected, you can then apply some stain blocker and allow to dry before applying emulsion.

It's from condensation. You need better ventilation. It shows up on the coldest walls (outside walls). Basically moist air from cooking, drying clothes on rads, cooking etc. Even leaving a fanlight open will help.

It does look like mould. Possibly the damp was able to escape through the walls until you had them rendered and sealed so the damp has nowhere to go. You can treat it with mould killer and stain block paint but you need to work out why the wall is damp otherwise it will come back.
