Do I need FENSA certification for fixing wooden frames of front door

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

Hi, Our front door is wooden and is generally in OK condition except the frames around it have become a bit warped/wonky and don't align anymore with the door and there's a couple of big gaps around the door. So we'd like to get this fixed by perhaps replacing the skirting with a brand new frame and perhaps trimming the door where needed so it's all straight. (Wouldn't mind a brand new door but can't afford it at the moment.) I spoke to one carpenter about this job but he said we need someone who's FENSA approved, but I read somewhere that FENSA is to do with windows or doors with more than 50% windows. Can someone advise which kind of tradesperson I should use for this job? Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You generally would need a builder knowledgeable in Building Regulations provisions. It would be advisable to renew both frame and door, using a door of no less width and height than the original. The door must be a minimum FD30 (FD60 preferably), thickness of no less than 44mm, and installed in accordance with fire/security door requirements.

Anyone is allowed to install doors and windows. If they are fensa registered then they self certify (ie sign it off themselves). If they aren't fensa approved then you need to notify building control, pay a fee, they will visit and approve the installation and provide a certificate
