Kitchen Fitting

Add a profiled edge trim to the end of a worktop.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

I have some laminate worktops that have a profiled edge on one side and will use a worktop jig and router to join three of the worktops together into a U shape. Clearly the profiled edges will be on the inside of the U which means the actual ends of my worktop will not have a profile and would normally be covered up with some edge trim. Is it possible to use the worktop jig to create a small strip, using some offcut, which can then be joined to the ends of the worktops to create a nice profiled edge all around the worktop?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the worktop comes with two edged sides you will be able to cut them and use the post formed edges for either end which is exposed and would require an edging strip. Also most worktops come with an edging strip which can be appplied to your routered edge using contact adhesive which if very straightforward to a competent kitchen installer!

This all depends where the work tops have come from if it’s ikea they have finished ends so you just need to cut to shape but most work tops come with end strips that you glue on or iron on hope this helps.
