Removing Wall Lights
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM
I need to remove 2 wall lights from the lounge of a bungalow. The lounge currently has 1 ceiling light and 4 wall lights. All are controlled by one light socket with 3 switches on it. The first switch controls the ceiling light, the centre switch controls 2 wall lights and the third switch controls the other 2 wall lights. I need to remove the 2 wall lights that are controlled by the third switch. Can I just disconnect the relevant wires at the back of the socket then remove the lights? (You may have guessed that I don't have any electrical knowledge other than wiring a plug). Many thanks

If you are unsure then I’d recommend getting a qualified electrician who will be able to safely disconnect it for you.

I would 100% get an electrician in if you don’t feel comfortable yourself. You would need to isolate the supply to the switch first. Before you remove the wall lights. Lighting circuits can become tricky if cables are removed from switches and mixed up.

You must get an electrician in. Lighting is quite complex for people with no experience and the cables you pull out have to be made safe.
