Electrical appliance under gas boiler - is this allowed?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

I am designing my kitchen and would like to fit a freezer underneath a boiler in an integrated cupboard. The hot pipes will be behind the freezer but I would insulate those so the freezer does not overheat. The freezer I have chosen will also fit in the space as I will fit the cupboard further out than normal to allow for the pipes, insulation and an air gap. However, is there anything in the regulations that will prevent me from doing this as I am worried about the risk of the boiler leaking water into the electrics of the freezer. Many thanks for your help.

Hi Keith, I don't imagine there would be a specific regulation about this, as far as I know there isn't any domestic electrical regulations to protect any fixed wiring from leaks as they could happen anywhere. I would think the temperature aspect would be the deciding factor with the heat from both the boiler and the freezer but if you assess the situation and allow for air flow etc as you say then you should be fine. Maybe have a heating engineer check over your boiler for risks of leaks if you are concerned about that.
