Silk peeling off

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.48 PM

Hi i moved into a new build house 2 years ago. Come to start painting the nursery with dulux silk. Sand all the walls down and then cleaned with damp cloth n soap. Allowed time to dry before applying 3 coats of the silk, at minimum 4/5hrs between coats. But Its now peeling off like a sticker. It has been painted over what looks like a matt white emulsion. 2 Other rooms have been painted in silk and have had no issues.. only difference is they werent sanded prior to painting. Help?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Painting over dirty walls, excess moisture, improper prep are some causes to solve the problem you’ll need to remove the peeling areas and paint the area with fresh coats of primer sealer then leave to dry before applying fresh coats of silk

your best option would be to sand back the defected areas and also sand the walls down again and wipes all dust and debris away. then paint the walls with a good primer sealer before re applying the silk finish to the walls.

I would suggest sanding the affected areas and making sure there is no flaking left. Then apply a primer sealer like Zinsser Cover Stain to the areas and then try again with your colour. Cover Stain is expensive but very good at solving this problem from my experience.

It is probably because you didn’t send that wall. You should sand it down and make sure to clean the dust on all of the area you want to paint. After you put a primer silk, let it dry for about 2 hours or more. After that you may continue with the painting procedure.
