Should wackering be done before concrete is poured on to the floor?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hello Having a new kitchen extension and the builder has not done the wackering but just poured the hand mixed concrete over the ground. Is that ok?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you mean straight on to the ground (as in earth/clay) then no,this is not ok.

It depends on the construction and location of the DPM. If consolidating the sub- base then this can be compacted with a wacker plate. Then normally lay hardcore and consolidate this. Sand blinding can follow, then the DPM. Now the concrete can be poured. If you were to use the compactor plate before laying the wet concrete then the DPM could be punctured by the hardcore giving rise to damp problems at a later date. Hope this helps. Andrew

hi it depends on what groundwork was done if your builder filled floor with stone it should be whacked every 150 mm then blinded out with sand, insulation laid, damp proof membrane laid then concrete.
