Bathroom Fitting

Bathroom to wetroom delays

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Looking for advice here as we are now on week 12 of the refit and not finished. I was quoted 5 weeks for the work with one man working on the job. It was a rip out of existing suite including bath and shower cubicle, retile, new window and false ceiling. There were unforseen problems with drainage externally but I'm so frustrated now that it's not completed. New shower is in and working, sink in but not connected to outside drainage, window in but not finished, expanding foam etc all round edges, and false ceiling is now just being plastered. Surely this should have been done first? Tiling partially done. What is a reasonable time frame for this job? Still to pay final instalment of £1500 on completion but I'm getting to the end of my tether with builder who said he'd ne finished last week but didn't turn up one day and only worked 3 hours a day on site for the other 4 days.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear the problem you're having. To put things simply you're the employer of this contracter, if you're not happy with his work or he is not meeting your requirements you're well within your rights to tell him and let him go. Obviously this makes things more difficult and should be a last resort. From what has been explained in your message I would have estimated 3 weeks for job completion. Allow me to break down the timeframe I would allow. Bathroom fully ripped out and gutted 2 days. First fix of pipework and preparation of appliance fitting 3 days. Any repairs to walls or floor 1 day. Full bathroom tiling 4 days. Second fix of plumbing appliances 2 days. Allow a couple of days extra for any constingences. I do not know what the problem was with the drainage but assuming worse case scenario he had to order parts and dig up floor this should take 2 days to make right. If you're not happy with how long he is staying on site this should be communicated with your contracter and made clear. I hope this has answered your questions. Kind regards, Jordan

hi i am sorry to hear that , its a bit of a frustration really cause it will only take 7 days to a maximum of 10 days to finish a whole bathroom refurbishment for 2 man job and it is also ideal cause there is always someone to help you but if its a one man job it will take 7 days to a maximum 14 days and that is from ripping everything out take away all waste and then all plumbing ,light fitting, extractor fan, plastering, decoration, tiling, and fitting up to final installation and sealing after 24 hrs everything will be ready for use i hope this helps
