UPVC doors and Windows plaster after removal

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

H I just had 2 bay windows (*5) replaced and front door replaced. Previous door and windows were timber and replaced with uPVC. When the tradesman remove the timber bay window headand architrave all around it removed lost of plaster etc. Tradesman installed the windows and then applied foam on gap between all sides and at bottom After that he just glued uPVC strip all around the window. Same process for replacing timber to uPVC Are the double glazing company supposed to plaster or seal all around where old architrave was or is it normal practice to fill the space with foam and hide it under uPVC strips ? Any advice would be grateful as I am concerned if correct practices were followed ? They did install bay poles for structure on all windows. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the smallish cracks/gaps can be filled with expanding foam and then successfully covered over with reasonable width of trim, then this is quite normal. If there is more serious damage to the plasterwork, the window company should take responsibility for plastering this and feathering it into the existing. At least, this is what I expect of the guys who work for me. It's normally good practice to ascertain beforehand with the company what level of "making good" the company will do in the event of damage while removing the old frames.

It just depends on what you agreed beforehand if I was doing it I would give you the options to either plaster or trim as you would be charged more to plaster up than trim, but plastic trims are normal practice unless you agreed for plastering up instead hope this helps

Quite normal practise to use trims to cover damage Upto 90mm, plaster can sometimes be water damaged from timber windows and becomes loose and/or flakey so often comes away when windows taken out.. having said that all care should be taken not to cause damage.. very rarely would a window installer plaster Upto frames etc unless previously agreed with customer..
