Primer for Engineering Bricks

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I need to render an external wall made of engineering bricks. Cement based render keeps coming off. I've tried pva didn't work. What's the best primer for this job?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi i have used Rendagrip bonding which you paint on beforehand. I've never needed anything else.

Hi. An cheap option, rake out joints and grind the brick faces. This will allow the render to grip on them.

Plug & screw expanding metal lathing along the bricks or rake out the joints 8-10mm so there’s something for the render to grip on

You can screw wire mesh to the wall before rendering it

I would score the face of the brick with and angle grinder, that way the mortar would be able to grip to the brick better and would be your cheapest option, otherwise tac a mesh to the wall.
