Laminate flooring in kitchen - under units but what about end panels?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Laminate flooring in kitchen - under units but what about end panels? So pretty simple I’m going to run the laminate planks under the units up to the legs and trim the kick boards and put them Back. However, what about the end panels that sit on the floor currently. As the kitchen is on the back and two side walls this means lots of end panels to cut. Unfortunately these can’t be unscrewed and cut. My thoughts were carefully measure the height of the laminate and use as a guide to cut the end panels. But would this look terrible if all went wrong? Cutting around and leaving a gap wouldn’t look good either. I can’t use trim and the kickboards are set back into the units. What do I seal the edges with? White sealant? Any thoughts? How do the pros get around this. Thanks

The technique I use is to lay the underlay, then place piece of laminate face down and use a multi tool resting on it to cut through the end panel. Done carefully this results in a neat cut, the laminate will slide underneath and the joint can be sealed with a suitably coloured sealant.

Like the others said. Nice new multi tool blade and cut through. Much better job. You’ll never be able to get it spot on cutting round them. Laminate moves too over time.

Yes, trim end panel’s and slide underneath. This will give the best finish, and silicone can be applied if needed.

As the first guy said, underlay down then lay a laminate board upside down and rest the multi tool on it and off you go. Or you could hire a door trimmer/jamb undercut tool and be done in seconds.
