Smooth/plaster finish in bathroom brick walls - plasterboard?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hello, I have a few bathrooms that are tiled and would like to have a plaster/smooth finish. It looks like its brick, render, and then tiled. What's the best practice on what to do when tiles are removed (brick/internal walls and shower/tub walls)? It is dot/dab plasterboard and then plaster or what? Curious to know as I've had mixed feedback.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi ,take the tiles off and hardwall plaster the wall first. Then skim with multifinish. It all depends how far you can come into the bathroom?

Why don’t you remove tiles then bond it and then skim.

It is standard practice to dot and dab plasterboard to brick wall, but it’s not the only solution. The brick can be re-rendered and that can then be skimmed to produce the same finish. You might opt for the second process if, for instance, you want more control over how far the wall is built out.
