How to fix continuous tone at control panel [Scantronic 9454 alarm]

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hello Professionals We have a Scantronic 9454 alarm We can hear a constant (not a beep, but continuous) whinning tone coming from the control panel only in the last couple hours that now won't go away The Control panel shows nothing No alarm lights are illuminated. Entering the pin code does nothing. I have no idea why this is. Has anyone seen this? Quick browse on internet suggest could be internal battery gone..what are your thoughts guys? Is this something I can safely and easily sort out myself? I don't want to call someone out if this is a 5 minute job! Do you think this is a battery issue , can i get away with just a replacement battery or is there another fix pls? Any help or advice/instruction would be very appreciated. thanks in advance. UPDATE :**CLOSED THREAD ***- Answers were fantastic and thank you to all you kind people :-)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most likely a battery fault. Batteries should in theory be replaced every 4 years unless a battery test deem the battery to be ok. After that an annual service will determine the state of the battery. Regards, Mark V.

I had this issue before and yes it was the internal battery . The only way to fix it was to replace them.

Call out an engineer. Try DMS Systems. There is live mains inside the main panel, so you should avoid trying to work on it yourself.

The scantronic panel you've named is an older model and is running 24 hours a day for years on end. If your saying that the leds are not lit and pressing buttons has no effect ie no sound I'd advise getting the alarm checked by a technician. The problem with not have your battery changed when required ie 4 years approx the panel works harder at putting a charge into the dead battery, this in turn can burn the panel out over time. These are not diy panels and should not under any circumstances be interfered with by customers, its worth the price of an engineer to keep you protected.
