Removing an internal wall

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM

I need advice on who to speak to about removing an internal concrete block wall in a 1950’s house. I think it’s a load bearing wall because the upstairs walls are in the same layout as the ground floor and I want to remove the wall between kitchen and dining room. Who can tell me if I need a steel and what size steel?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will need to hire a structural engineer and have the works signed off by building control.

Hi Sharon, I would seek advice from a structural engineer. A structural engineer can calculate the load and provide the measurements for the correct size RSJ. You would then need a professional builder to source the reinforced steel joist and install. Upon completion a building inspector would then inspect and ensure that it complies. Hope this helps.
