Switching from integrated fridgefreezer to freestanding
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM
My flat has an integrated fridgefreezer that is nearing the end of its life. I want to replace it with a freestanding one, but vendors only seem to be willing to install like with like, eg freestanding for freestanding, integrated with integrated. Do I need to do some diy before disposing of my integrated fridge freezer and replacing it with a freestanding one? Is it an easy job?

This is pretty easy the only thing is if the plinth is one piece going over dishwasher and units either side ,if so would need cut and edged on units and removed where dishwasher was situated then dishwasher needs unscrewed from worktop or edges of units ,the freestanding dishwasher should be slightly smaller in width so should fit in space ok .
The electrical supply and waste and water would likely be either side possibly in a unit as there is little room behind an integrated dishwasher so should be easily connected

I would remove the integrated fridge, remove the unit it sits in and infill the sides to give a clean finish.

The question was about the fridge freezer and the answer about the dishwasher. To remove fridge freezer and replace with the free standing is not a big deal, but I’m sure once you remove tall larder panels there will be visible holes from the screws, so probably best option to fit end panels. To replace dishwasher answer acceptable, but personally me like mitre joint with return to the wall.

I think he was speaking about the fridge-freezer, not the dishwasher. I could be done. Just buy one to fit in that. space. Usually, integrated appliances are bad quality. Good choice to go for a freestanding. More options. Good Luck!
