Water coming in above front door when it rains
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM
Hi, I have a 1880s mid terrace house. When I rains water drips in above the front door. It is nit the door itself, it is above that. The roof was looked at and sorted a few years ago so I'm sure it isn't that either. Is it likely to be some pointing that needs redoing or something else?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The lime mortar has eroded after so many years and likely repointing will prevent further ingress.

Yes it sounds like you need the brickwork repointing

Sounds like it needs a new cavity tray above the door.

My initial answer would be a question.
Can I see a picture of the property or can you tell me if there is a stone or brick hood mould detail above the doorway. If yes then this could be the likely cause. If not then it could simply be pointing or another question does the building have a cavity? If yes then could easily be a defective damp proofing course with blocked weep holes etc...

Would need inspecting by a tradesman, but sounds like it’s potentially getting into the cavity.
Re-pointing any gaps and cracks
or it could just need the external door frame sealing with silicone to the brickwork.
