How to finish outside ground next to an extension wall?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

Our new rear extension has a brick wall adjoining the neighbour's patio (it's a semi-detached house and the attached neighbour's house is not extended). There is a 15 cm gap to the boundary. The neighbour complained that our builders had filled the ground there with rubble, and dug this out, asking us to remove it. This is now 2 years ago. The ground next to our extension (brick) wall has been left very rough, with a hole where the material was dug out, and weeds growing out of the ground. My question: can this harm the extension wall or foundations in any way? Could it cause damp problems for instance? And what is the best way to fill this gap between our extension and the boundary, should we use stones or gravel to make it safe?

Try and fill with shingle if you can put down a weed barrier sheet Unfortunately you can’t Guarantee weeds not growing back if you can’t get Down there to pull roots out

Ok to put shingle down as long as it’s 150 mm below the damp corse
