Screed on top of copper pipe.
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM
Bought a house recently. In one corner of the hallway the concrete floor was broken and uneven. There are some bare copper pipes underneath the concrete for a nearby radiator. In very good condition. The pipes are partially covered in a kind of red sand that is hard in places. I was hoping to put screed over the pipes but concerned about corrosion and expansion. What do I need to cover the pipes with before putting levelling screed on top? Thanks in advance

Under the water regs pipes shouldn't be buried in screed. Copper pipes should be contained in a purpose designed chase with a removable lid
Screed over copper pipes would eventually corrode it

Ideally you would protect the copper with a product called denzo tape which you will find in a plumbers merchant.
Instead you could use a heavy gauge d p c but it isn’t ideal.

You can use Denso Tape over the pipes. You can get the tape in plumbing shops, or even on Amazon. Denso tape is highly resistant to mineral acids, salts etc and highly impermeable to water. That will protect the copper against corrosion from screed.
