Deep Channel in concrete slab to fill

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.04 PM

I live in a 1960s bungalow. All the water and heating pipes currently run under the floor but I am in the process of renewing the plumbing and running them in the attic. I have just taken some floor tiles up in the hallway and for the first time have seen the channel in the ground that the pipes are running in. I was surprised to see the MDF lid on the channel was damp! Anyway, I lifted the MDF to find that the pipes are not actually in a channel in the concrete slab but are actually sitting on bare ground. The slab stops, there are the pipes and then the slab starts again. I want to cap the pipes and remove them and then fill this space with concrete but am concerned about damp rising through the new concrete if I dont seal the membrane appropriately. Can someone advise on the best course of action please?
