Repairing of Artex

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

I have a artex celling, and now recently there been a crack and a small patch of it has fallen off. Artex design is a shell shape. Is this artex repairable, if so can someone please suggest what will be the best solution? Will I need to get the entire ceiling plastered? Any help, advice appreciated?

I personally, would scrim tape the crack, fill the patch and apply two coats of plaster over artex to a flat smooth finish, you can try and repair it, but those days they nailed the boards up and there is no way to know if the nails are bad with the coat of artex, you can put few screws in and plaster to be sure the crack dosnt come back. Also make sure there is no leaks or damp, coursing the problem. My pics you see we did one, similar. The lady had that spray on roof insulation, which causes damp to build up and run down the joists and drip on areas of her ceiling.

The artex is repairable but would recommend a complete reskim. Find the joists and screw the existing boards up tight. (boards used to get nailed up and sounds like the boards are starting to drop) Scrim any cracks 2 coats of diluted pva and reskim.

With the right tool it’s a simple enough fix. Instead of plaster I’d personally use a wet ‘plasterboard adhesive’ mix Slap it on, form ya shell shape let it dry. Done
