Plumbing

Lots of Green flux on pipework boiler)

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

Hi Had a new boiler about 18 months ago, but never really looked at pipework as it's in the airing cupboard used for clothes I cleared it out today and there seems to be a lot of flux on the pipework both big splodges and streaks from running down the pipework) I texted the plumber who did the boiler for advice but no reply Is this something I should be concerned about? Is the flux corrosive? Would a plumber be able to clean the piping and check for pitting if so? Or would they be unwilling to come out? Thanks

Agree with above. Pipework should be wiped down after soldering to avoid flux left on it as it is corrosive. Most flux is water solvable but once its slightly dried it will need something more than water, such as wire wool.

Clean pipes with wire wool and then clean down with wet cloth. Dry pipes afterwards.

Flux is corrosive and will eventually rot through the pipe. The pipe does need cleaning with wire wool and some hot water but stay away from soapy water when cleaning it off
