Can another electrician do remedial works for EICR report done by someone else?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I had EICR reports done for one a dozen of tenanted flats 2 years ago, just before the covid lockdowns. There are a few C2 and C3 in each report. That electrician is no longer around. Can I get another electrician to just fix the C2s and ignore the C3s for now (it would cost a couple grand more to do all the C3s for all the flats, and money is tight)? I need to show "satisfactory" reports to my mortgage lender and am unsure what's the best way to do it without the original electrician. And I don't want to pay for new EICR reports for all the flats. Thanks for the advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No need to retest anything. Only one EICR is necessary. All that's required is remedial work recommended in the observations, test certificate(s) for the remedial work and put it all together as a pack.

According to city guilds 2931-52 all rented accommodation should have an EICR every 3 years as per ammendment 2 of the 18th edition. So as its been 2 years I would probably get it retested to cover the next 3 years anyway and see if anymore c2s come up. You are under no obligation to go with whoever carried out the EICR to do the repairs also.

Yes another electrician can carry out remedial works. Ideally would recommend it be retested should any other issues have arisen in the time it had been tested to completion.

Yes another electrician can carry out the Remedial work. But I would recommend a test be carried out again because of the time of the previous test.

As it's down to the electrician on-site at the time, it's worth getting another firm in and re-testing. Some companies are slack and want the money for the test and are in and out very quickly and are cheap. Some go over the top and take the regs too far giving a C2 for something that could be a C3, but they want the rectification work revenue! Some of us go in, and give you a full inspection and an honest report at the end. We're not the cheapest quote you will get, that's for sure. When you put your car in for an MOT, do you want the inspector to give you an honest report about your vehicles condition, or do you just want a bit of paper for legal reasons?
