Gas/Electrical - Change freestanding gas cooker to new electric and induction cooker
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
Moved to a property that has as Stove freestanding gas hob and gas oven. Prefer to change both to electric oven and induction hob in future when kitchen updated. What is best to purchase (possibly freestanding cooker with electric Oven/Induction hob -to fit same space?) What trades would be needed to do this? Gas contractor to fully cap off gas to cooker and then electrician to install the induction cooker and add to electrical circuits? Would one person do both?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Whether the trader you employ has the entitlement to carry out both electrical and gas work.
Adding a job description you'll find it here on mybuilder.com, by looking at traders profile and checking on whether endorsed to do so, where then you request a personal invitation , in time should return your inquiry.
Thanks
Hope this helps

Gas engineer to isolate and cap existing appliance. It would depend on what is already wired in and the load of new oven/cooker but I would say yes to an electrician as well.

Part P registered gassafe engineer could do both otherwise you might need both trades if theirs not already a socket/switch there.

You are correct with needing a registered gas engineer to disconnect, cap and test the pipework, once you are ready to remove the existing gas appliances.
As for the new electric options, It would be worth checking the specs' or manual for the cooker/hob you are thinking of purchasing, to determine if a dedicated/hardwired fused spur is required. If the appliances do require a fused spur, then yes, you will need a qualified electrician or multiskilled gas engineer that is qualified. This would maintain the manufacturer warranty requirements.
If on the other hand, the appliance manual/specs only require a plug and socket electric connection, this could be completed by yourself. (Personal knowledge to wire a plug and a free socket permitting obviously. Always check the amp/ voltage requirements in the specs')
