Bricklaying & Repointing

Do I need to cut a channel in flooring for blocks I'm using to brick up opening.

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I'm blocking up a opening in the living room, and either side it's typical dense blocks in a brick bond. The idea is to tooth out and carry on the brick bond across the opening till filled. Problem is whenever the previous owner filled the original chanel in they must have used so hell of a heavy duty mix of cement because christ it won't budget with an sds drill. So my thinking is just to cut the first row of blocks down in height to keep the same height across new/old. Or use one of them metal tie in systems to just have an slightly out of aligned section.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would personally just use a furfix to tie in to existing wall and build straight of the floor, you may have a cut at the top just have to see how it works. It’s all going to be covered up so doesn’t really matter, hopefully this helps

Before you start building on the floor you’ll need to make sure that the sub base is sufficient for building on otherwise it may want to move, but yes use a metal tie commonly know as a wall starter. sercure to walls either side then just use ties provided it will save toothing out and will be just as strong
