Venting single hose portable air con through chimney
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
We have a chimney breast which is no longer in use. It's been boarded up with plasterboard. There's a vent at the bottom, inside the house. Would it be possible to vent a portable (single hose, self evaporating) air con through the vent? Could this lead to any moisture / damp issues?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Would be better to core a hole to the outside and vent that way avoiding any issues with moisture in the chimney stack

The chimney is meant to carry dry hot air up and out of the property and not to expel damp moisture as hot air rises and cold wet moisture does not

I would look at getting a external vent through the wall.

You can get screens for the window. Filling the open window but has a hole for ex spelling internal air. The damp would not get out the chimney.
