Replace a roof over garage, to have a full wall and roof at same height as rest of house?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi, We are going to view a house tomorrow that has a pitched roof over the garage with a dormer at the front and skylight at the back, this holds a bedroom and a smaller office room at the back and the pitch starts at the first floor so much lower than the roof on the rest of the house that starts at the second floor. I was wondering if it is possible to remove the lower roof and build up the walls to be the same height as the rest of the house and replace the roof to be in situ with the existing roof? Is it currently a 3 bed but need a 4 bed so would need to convert. I appreciate every house is different and you can't say got certain, we are just wondering if it would be a general possibility. I have tried to explain it the best I can. Thanks for any replies.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Yes that is possible generally what would happen is trial holes would need to be dug externally to inspect the existing foundations to ensure they are adequate to take the extra loading of the new extension these can be inspected by your local building control before the construction progresses.
