Tiled bathroom floor with drain caused escape of water

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi I've had a bathroom tiled (floor and walls) which is step-free and new drain was put in. I let the grout dry for 2 days and decided to shower. The water was draining very slowly and to my horror, the water escaped out of the bathroom, into the utility room and has now damaged the laminate floor! The tiler refuses to acknowledge a problem with the drainage and said the shower curtain maybe an issue. Is he right? ETA: Thank you for your responses. Ian: Ironically the tiler was recommended to me by a plumber. He had rave reviews and was local so went with him. English isn't his first language so he didn't understand certain nuances. He also refused to take away the rubbish which he has left me to deal with, and I have to replace the laminate flooring which is now soaked. All in all he's ripped me off, he identified me as a mug and fleeced me. He claimed that the drain he fitted was £80. A quick search on Amazon reveals it's £12.50!

Unfortunately there isn’t a straight answer, you would need to have it investigated to find the answer..

Is this a wet room?. If so it sounds like he’s got the gradient of the floor wrong. He’used the wrong drain or quite simply he’s not a qualified tradesman that knows how to correctly install a shower drain. Sorry but people like that give us reputable tradesmen a bad name. Garry from Solihull
